High Court Denies Nana Agradaa Bail Pending Appeal of 15-Year Sentence

By Joylinda Laryea / July 15, 2025

The High Court in Amasaman has refused to grant bail to Patricia Asiedua Asiamah, popularly known as Nana Agradaa, as she appeals her 15-year prison sentence handed down by the Accra Circuit Court earlier this month.

The controversial televangelist and former traditional priestess was convicted on July 3, 2025, on two counts of defrauding by false pretence and charlatanic advertisement, following her widely publicized 2022 “money doubling” scheme aired on her Today TV platform.

Confirming the ruling on Tuesday, Bernard Kofi Asamoah, a member of Agradaa’s legal team, told Citi FM that the court denied their request for bail pending appeal, but issued instructions for the Circuit Court to submit all relevant documentation concerning the appeal process.

“We wanted bail pending appeal, and the court did not grant it. The court has given an order that the Circuit Court furnish the court with all the processes needed for the appeal. We will continue the appeal process,” said Mr. Asamoah.

Agradaa’s legal team filed a notice of appeal on July 7, contesting both her conviction and the severity of the sentence. They allege that the trial was procedurally flawed, accusing the presiding judge of judicial bias and arguing that the 15-year sentence was “harsh and excessive.”

The charges against Agradaa stem from a series of television broadcasts in which she allegedly encouraged viewers to send her money with promises of receiving double in return — a scheme authorities later declared fraudulent.

Despite the setback, her legal representatives say they remain resolute in pursuing all available legal avenues to overturn the conviction.

“We believe in the merit of our case and will exhaust every legal remedy,” Asamoah affirmed.

Nana Agradaa remains in custody and will serve her sentence with hard labour, as stipulated by the Circuit Court ruling delivered by Judge Evelyn Asamoah.
