Ghanaian dancehall artiste, Charles Nii Armah Mensah Jnr., popularly known as Shatta Wale, has been granted bail by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) in connection with a Lamborghini tied to a $4 million fraud case in the United States.
The bail, set at GH₵10 million with two sureties, was granted on today, after hours of interrogation.
However, Shatta Wale will remain in custody until the sureties are verified by the court.
The case revolves around a 2019 Lamborghini Urus seized from the musician’s residence in May during a joint EOCO-FBI operation. According to investigators, the luxury vehicle has been linked to proceeds of a $4 million fraud scheme orchestrated by Ghanaian national Nana Kwabena Amuah, who is currently serving a prison sentence in the United States.
During interrogation, Shatta Wale claimed he purchased the car for $150,000 “from the street”, insisting he had no formal documentation aside from a customs declaration form bearing Amuah’s name. He further explained that the seller, known only as “ZAK”, contacted him through WhatsApp but could no longer be reached as he allegedly discarded the number.
EOCO has identified Shatta Wale as a “person of interest” in the ongoing probe, stressing that the matter forms part of a wider asset recovery process initiated by U.S. authorities. Should ownership be traced directly to the fraud proceeds, the Lamborghini could be repatriated to the United States as part of a restitution order valued between $4 million and $4.7 million.
The artiste’s legal team has yet to issue a formal statement, but industry watchers say the case could have far-reaching implications for his career.
For now, all eyes remain on EOCO’s next steps as the high-profile investigation unfolds.
