Tema High Court Dismisses Evangelist Mama Pat’s Application in Defamation Case Filed by Empress Gifty

The Tema High Court has dismissed an application by Evangelist Mama Pat, popularly known as Nana Agradaa, to strike out a defamation suit brought against her by gospel musician Empress Gifty. The court also ordered Mama Pat to pay GH¢6,000 as compensation for delays caused by her legal team in the handling of the case.

The legal battle traces its roots to a social media storm that began when Sammy Gyamfi, a leading political figure, gifted Nana Agradaa some dollors ,a gesture that sparked widespread backlash against him online. Amid the controversy, Empress Gifty’s husband, Hopeson Adorye, was asked during an interview for his views on the Sammy Gyamfi-Agradaa issue. In his response, he made some derogatory comments about Nana Agradaa.

Feeling slighted, Nana Agradaa retaliated with harsh insults directed at Hopeson Adorye. In the process, she dragged Empress Gifty into the fray, making offensive and defamatory remarks about the gospel star. This prompted Empress Gifty to take legal action against Agradaa, suing her for defamation to protect her name and reputation.

As the case proceeds, a fresh lawsuit has reportedly been filed against Mama Pat over additional claims in which she allegedly accused Empress Gifty of being HIV positive, further intensifying the legal tussle between the two. The court is expected to continue hearing the matter in the coming weeks.
