Experts from the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), member states, and key regional partners have gathered in Accra for a three-day series of high-level meetings aimed at boosting economic integration and advancing shared development goals across West Africa.
The sessions, which opened on Wednesday, November 19, 2025, were launched under the chairmanship of Hon. Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, Ghana’s Minister of Trade, Agribusiness, and Industry. She was joined by Dr. Kalilou Syllla, ECOWAS Commissioner for Economic Affairs and Agriculture, who emphasized the urgency of deepening cooperation to confront the region’s economic and agricultural challenges.
The meetings bring together technical experts, policymakers, and development stakeholders to harmonize ongoing regional initiatives and accelerate a suite of strategic projects. These projects are designed to promote cross-border trade, enhance agricultural productivity, strengthen food security systems, and ensure inclusive economic growth across all ECOWAS member states.
Officials highlighted that the initiatives under discussion are central to achieving ECOWAS’ Vision 2050, which seeks to create a peaceful, prosperous, and interconnected West Africa. They also align closely with the African Union’s Agenda 2063, reinforcing the continent’s long-term development blueprint.
Over the three days, participants are expected to refine strategies, share best practices, and map out actionable steps to consolidate regional markets, improve value chains, and enhance economic resilience in the face of global uncertainties.
The outcomes of the Accra meetings are anticipated to provide renewed momentum for the region’s integration agenda and strengthen cooperation among member states as they work toward shared prosperity.
