The Minister for the Interior, Hon. Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, has called for urgent correctional reforms in Ghana’s prison system, stressing the need to shift from punishment to rehabilitation and reintegration.

He made the call during the Passing-Out Parade of Recruit Course 125 at the Ankaful Prison Officers’ Training School on Monday, June 16, 2025.

Addressing the newly commissioned officers, the Minister reaffirmed government’s commitment to transforming the Ghana Prisons Service into a modern correctional institution focused on restoring lives. He emphasized the expansion of vocational training, education, and productive inmate enterprises aimed at equipping inmates with skills for successful reintegration into society.

“Correctional reform is not an act of charity but a strategic investment in national security and human capital,” Hon. Muntaka said, adding that prisons must become centers of renewal rather than just facilities for detention.

The ceremony, which saw the graduation of hundreds of officers, highlighted themes of reformation, vigilance, and fortitude, drawing attendance from top security officials and dignitaries.
