The Ghana Police Service has confirmed the arrest of Bright Aweh Roberts, alleged close friend of the late Immigration Officer, Stephen King Amoah, in connection with the officer’s gruesome murder, reportedly over a GHC 20,000 debt.
In a statement signed by Superintendent Juliana Obeng, Head of Public Affairs at the Accra Regional Police Command, authorities revealed that Amoah had been reported missing since July 3, 2025. Tragically, his burnt body was discovered five days later, on the morning of July 9, in a gutter near GBC Satellite, opposite Comet Estate in Accra.
Despite the severe burns, the body was positively identified at the Police Hospital morgue by family members, confirming their worst fears.
Investigations uncovered that on the evening of July 3, at about 8:00 p.m., the deceased left his residence at Ashongman Estate after receiving WhatsApp images of cash bundles from Bright Aweh. Aweh had allegedly requested to meet him at a spot within the area to settle a longstanding debt.
However, Amoah never returned home, and his phone remained off, prompting a missing person’s report and subsequent investigation.
The Police said that upon arrest, Aweh admitted to giving the deceased GHS 500,000 in cash, claiming the money was intended partly to settle debts and partly to be held for future collection. However, his inability to provide a clear source for the large sum and his inconsistent statements have deepened suspicion.
The Police Command condemned the “violent and criminal act” and has assured the public of a thorough investigation to uncover the full circumstances of the crime and bring all responsible individuals to justice.
The Command has also appealed to the general public for any information related to the case and urged citizens to report such details to the nearest police station or call emergency lines 18555 or 192.
