The Central East Regional Police Command has secured a conviction against 20-year-old Mohammed Bello for his involvement in a highway robbery incident that occurred on July 6, 2025, near Dabanyin, close to Gomoa Buduatta Junction on the Kasoa-Winneba road.
According to a statement issued by the Public Affairs Unit of the Ghana Police Service, Bello and four other accomplices—currently on the run—attacked and robbed several drivers and passengers, making away with mobile phones, personal belongings, and an unspecified amount of cash.
Police say a swift and intelligence-led response led to the arrest of Bello within the vicinity as he attempted to flee. A search on him yielded several stolen items, including GH¢3,740.00 in cash, two Samsung smartphones, a Tecno Spark 20, an Itel keypad phone, a power bank, a lady’s purse, cigarettes, a wristwatch, a headset, a mobile phone charger head, and a pair of sandals identified by one of the victims.
Following thorough investigations, Bello was arraigned before the Ofaakor Circuit Court on Tuesday, July 8, 2025, where he pleaded guilty to charges of robbery. The court sentenced him to 25 years imprisonment with hard labour.
The Central East Regional Police Command, led by DSP Victor Kofi Dosoo, Head of Public Affairs, has reaffirmed its commitment to public safety and has assured that efforts are ongoing to apprehend the remaining accomplices to ensure they face the full rigors of the law.
