Seven Arrested for Illegal Mining in Upper Denkyira West; Weapons and Equipment Seized
The Central Regional Police Command has arrested seven individuals for engaging in illegal mining activities at Abora, a community in the Upper Denkyira West Municipality of the Central Region.

The Central Regional Police Command has arrested seven individuals for engaging in illegal mining activities at Abora, a community in the Upper Denkyira West Municipality of the Central Region.
The arrests were made during an intelligence-led operation, where the suspects were caught actively mining without authorization. The police also retrieved a cache of weapons and mining equipment from the scene.
Among the seized items were one single barrel shotgun, two Mossberg pump action shotguns, 26 live cartridges, two excavators, two Hyundai excavator monitors, three unregistered motorbikes, one unregistered Haojin tricycle, and a newly acquired water pump.
According to the police, the suspects are currently in custody assisting with investigations, while all retrieved exhibits are being securely held as evidence.
The Central Regional Police Command has reiterated its commitment to clamping down on illegal mining operations and has urged the public to provide timely information to support the fight against illegal mining, locally known as “galamsey.”
