Nana Agradaa Sentenced to 15 Years in Prison for Money-Doubling Scam

Former traditional priestess turned evangelist, Patricia Asiedua Asiamah, widely known as Nana Agradaa, has been sentenced to 15 years in prison with hard labour by the Circuit Court in Accra for engaging in fraudulent religious activities.

The Founder of Heaven Way Champion International Ministry, located at Weija in Accra, was found guilty on multiple counts of charlatanic advertisement and defrauding by false pretence. The conviction stems from a widely publicised 2022 television broadcast in which she claimed to possess spiritual powers to "double" money for her followers.

According to court documents, Nana Agradaa used her Today-TV platform and other social media channels to invite the public to an all-night church service, promising that any money brought to the service would be supernaturally multiplied. This deceptive claim led hundreds of people from across Ghana to her church, where they parted with substantial sums of money in hope of receiving multiplied returns.

The prosecution revealed that six individuals, who later filed complaints, were among many who received nothing in return after giving their money at the event. Investigations showed that the accused acted with others in a coordinated scheme to defraud the public under the guise of religious worship.

The court, presided over by Her Honor Evelyn Asamoah, described Nana Agradaa’s actions as deliberate and exploitative, targeting vulnerable members of society. Before the final sentencing, the judge ordered a mandatory pregnancy test—standard procedure under Ghanaian law for female convicts. The test confirmed she was not pregnant, paving the way for sentencing.

Nana Agradaa will serve her 15-year jail term with hard labour.
