17 Suspects Arrested in Major Anti-Galamsey Operations in Western Region
Seventeen people have been arrested in anti-galamsey operations by the Western Central Regional Police Command at Adamaso and Wassa Mamieso on June 24, 2025. Twelve were arrested at Adamaso with five pumping machines seized, while five others were arrested near the Mamie River at Wassa Mamieso, where a Sunny Excavator control board was retrieved. All suspects are in custody assisting with investigations.

The Western Central Regional Police Command has arrested seventeen (17) persons in two separate operations targeting illegal mining activities in Adamaso and Wassa Mamieso.
In the first operation at Adamaso, twelve individuals were apprehended. They include: Abraham Antwi (26), Jeremiah Adusei (37), Eric Martey (41), George Amoah (45), Misasa Jonas (25), Larry Ndaaso (42), Ezekiel Dome (22), Bismark Adu (19), Alex Sabla (34), Godfrey Acheampong (29), Ebenezer Mensah (21), and Emmanuel Appiah (25). The police also seized five (5) pumping machines used in the illegal activity.
In a separate intelligence-led operation conducted near the Mamie River at Wassa Mamieso, five more suspects were arrested: Junior Simon (21), Stephen Tetteh (30), Samuel Kwarteng (19), Matthew Wofatey (20), and Seidu Ayigbe (30). A “Sunny Excavator 215 Control Board” was retrieved during the raid.
All suspects are currently in police custody and are assisting with ongoing investigations. The seized equipment and machinery have been secured as evidence.
The police command reaffirmed its commitment to intensifying operations against illegal mining, also known as galamsey, which continues to pose serious environmental and economic threats to the country.
