Taifa Floods Cut Off Accra-Amasaman-Nsawam Road, Stranding Dozens of Commuters

A major section of the Accra-Amasaman-Nsawam Road at Taifa has been rendered impassable following a heavy downpour on Wednesday evening, leaving hundreds of commuters stranded and disrupting vehicular movement along the busy route.

According to eyewitnesses and a video shared by a frustrated commuter, floodwaters swept across the road, cutting off access in both directions. Dozens of vehicles were seen stuck on either side of the affected stretch, with drivers and passengers forced to wait helplessly as the water levels rose.

The flooding, which occurred after several hours of rainfall, exposed the poor drainage infrastructure in the area a recurring issue that residents say has been neglected for years.

“We are tired of complaining. Anytime it rains, this place becomes a river. How are we supposed to go to work or school when the road is like this?” a visibly upset commuter told reporters.

Many travelers heading to and from Accra, Amasaman, and Nsawam were forced to either turn back or wait for the floodwaters to subside, causing major traffic congestion and delays throughout the evening and into Thursday morning.

Residents and drivers are calling on city authorities and the Ministry of Roads and Highways to take urgent steps to fix the drainage system and reconstruct the affected section of the road to prevent future occurrences.

As of Thursday morning, there was no official statement from the Ghana Highway Authority or the Ga North Municipal Assembly regarding immediate steps to address the situation.
