The Minority Caucus in Parliament has expressed deep sorrow following the tragic military helicopter crash that claimed eight lives on Wednesday, August 6, 2025. The victims included two cabinet ministers, senior government officials, and military personnel who were on official duty.

In a statement signed by Minority Leader, Hon. Alexander Kwamina Afenyo-Markin, the caucus described the incident as a “profound human loss that touches the very soul of our nation.” The statement followed an official confirmation of the fatalities by the Chief of Staff, Hon. Julius Debrah.

Among those who perished were Defence Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, Environment Minister Hon. Dr. Alhaji Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator Muniru Mohammed, former NDC parliamentary candidate Samuel Aboagye, NDC National First Vice Chairman Samuel Sarpong, and three military personnel ,Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, Flying Officer Mane-Twum Ampadu, and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah.

Afenyo-Markin paid personal tribute to Dr. Boamah and Dr. Mohammed, describing them as patriots whose service transcended party politics. “These were fathers, husbands, sons, and devoted patriots who awakened this fateful Wednesday morning with the noble intention of serving Ghana,” he stated.

He extended condolences to President John Dramani Mahama and the bereaved families, emphasizing that the tragedy is a national one. “Your loss is our loss; your grief is our grief. In this moment of national tragedy, we stand united with you as Ghanaians mourning together,” the Minority Leader said.

The caucus also called on Ghanaians to honor the memories of the deceased by supporting the Armed Forces, protecting the environment, and promoting national unity. “Let us channel our grief into renewed determination to build the Ghana they envisioned,” Afenyo-Markin concluded.

The crash, which occurred earlier in the day, has plunged the country into mourning as investigations continue into its cause.
