19-Year-Old Jailed 20 Years with Hard Labour for Armed Robbery in Upper West Region
19-year-old Adams Hamidu gets 20 years with hard labour for a February 2025 robbery. Arrested on June 1; accomplice still at large.

The Upper West Regional Police Command has confirmed the conviction and sentencing of 19-year-old Adams Hamidu, who has been handed a 20-year jail term with hard labour for armed robbery.
Hamidu, popularly known as Gyida, was found guilty by the Wa Circuit Court after being involved in a robbery incident in February 2025. According to police reports, he and an accomplice who remains at large robbed a victim of a Honda motorcycle valued at GH¢20,000, a Tecno mobile phone worth GH¢1,300, and an amount of GH¢10,800 in cash.
The suspect's criminal activities came to an end on 1st June 2025 when he was arrested by the police at Domowa, a community in the Wa-West District of the Upper West Region. He was subsequently arraigned before the court and convicted on 5th June 2025.
The Police Command has reiterated its commitment to fighting crime in the region and urged members of the public to continue cooperating with law enforcement to ensure community safety.
Efforts are underway to apprehend Hamidu’s accomplice to face justice.
