Host of Crime Check TV, Ibrahim Oppong Kwarteng, has shed light on the mental and emotional toll prison life is likely to have on popular evangelist and former fetish priestess, Nana Agradaa, who was recently sentenced to prison for defrauding her followers.
In a statement addressing public interest in the case, Kwarteng confirmed that Nana Agradaa, born Patricia Asieduaa, has not yet been transferred to the Nsawam Medium Security Prisons, where she is expected to serve her sentence. However, he noted that the real punishment will go far beyond physical confinement.
"The real pain of prison for Nana Agradaa will be the psychological torture of not having her freedom and being confined," he stated, emphasizing how loss of liberty can weigh heavily on individuals, especially those used to public attention and flamboyant lifestyles.
Nana Agradaa was arrested in October 2022 after several members of her congregation accused her of defrauding them under false pretenses. According to reports, she allegedly promised to double large sums of money for church members as part of a so-called "money miracle," an act that resembled her previous controversial “sika gari” (money-doubling) claims before her supposed conversion to Christianity.
Following her arrest by the Ghana Police Service, she was charged with multiple counts of defrauding by false pretenses and charlatanic advertisement. After a protracted legal battle, the court found her guilty and handed down a prison sentence in 2025.
Her conviction was seen by many as a landmark moment in the fight against religious exploitation in Ghana. While some of her supporters maintain her innocence, others have praised the judicial system for holding her accountable.
Ibrahim Oppong Kwarteng, known for his advocacy for prison reform and inmate welfare, urged the public to view her sentence not just as punishment, but as a moment for reflection on the consequences of deception and the abuse of public trust.
Meanwhile, preparations are reportedly underway to process her transfer to the Nsawam Prisons, where she will officially begin her term behind bars.
