The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), through its Gender Development Centre (EGDC), has intensified efforts to combat gender-based violence (GBV) in Ghana by organising a national training workshop in Accra.
Held from 15 to 18 September 2025, the workshop was conducted in collaboration with the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Welfare and brought together key stakeholders, including representatives from government ministries, civil society organisations, security agencies and the ECOWAS National Office.
Participants received enhanced training on judicial, medical and psychosocial support systems for GBV survivors, with a strong emphasis on confidentiality and victim protection.
The workshop concluded with the adoption of a national roadmap for the dissemination of tools to prevent and respond to GBV and sexual harassment. Stakeholders also issued a collective call for zero tolerance toward all forms of violence against women and girls in Ghana.
ECOWAS officials reaffirmed their commitment to supporting member states in building safer and more inclusive societies through coordinated policy action and capacity-building.
