The Central Regional Education Director, Dr. Julliette Duffie Otamie, has revealed that fifty-four (54) special needs candidates are participating in the 2025 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) in the Central Region.

She made this disclosure during a media briefing on the region’s preparedness ahead of the nationwide exams. Dr. Otamie noted that the Ghana Education Service (GES) has taken deliberate steps to ensure inclusivity and support for candidates with special educational needs.

These 54 candidates include students with visual impairment, hearing difficulties, and other physical and learning disabilities,” she stated. “We have put in place adequate arrangements to ensure that they write the exams under favorable conditions, including provision of extra time, appropriate seating, and the use of special aids where necessary.”

She commended the efforts of teachers, parents, and school authorities who have worked tirelessly to prepare all candidates for the exams, especially those with special needs.

The BECE, which began on June 11, 2025, is being conducted across the country with thousands of candidates writing in various centers. Dr. Otamie expressed optimism about a smooth and successful examination period in the Central Region.

“We urge all candidates to remain focused, confident, and avoid any form of examination malpractice,” she added.
