The Ghana Meteorological Agency (GMet) has issued a weather forecast indicating widespread thunderstorms and rainfall across various parts of the country this afternoon through to Thursday morning. The forecast highlights potentially hazardous conditions, especially along the coast and inland areas, due to an approaching rainstorm over the Gulf of Guinea.

According to the agency, moderate to heavy thunderstorms are expected this afternoon and evening in coastal cities such as Accra, Aflao, Kasoa, Takoradi, Cape Coast, and Axim. These storms are likely to extend slightly northward and affect middle belt towns including Kumasi, Koforidua, Sunyani, Techiman, and Goaso.

The forecast further warns of another rainstorm currently situated over neighboring Togo, which is projected to move into Ghana and affect parts of the northern and transition zones, including Tamale, Wa, Damongo, Bolgatanga, and Bole.

“There is a 40% to 60% probability of thunderstorms and rain (TSRA) in most parts of the country this afternoon and evening,” the report states. Morning conditions on Thursday (June 12) are expected to be misty or partly cloudy in many areas, with visibility potentially affected in some regions.

Coastal areas have also been cautioned about gusty winds accompanying the storm system, which could pose a threat to life and property. Residents and travelers are advised to take precautionary measures to avoid any disasters.

Temperature readings range between 24°C to 35°C across major cities, with the sea state along the coast forecasted to be rough.

The forecast was signed by Duty Forecaster Prince O. Koduah from the Main Forecast Office in Accra and is valid from 12:00 PM on June 11, 2025.
