In a significant development aimed at strengthening Ghana’s internal security structures, President John Dramani Mahama on Tuesday swore in Vice President Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, the Inspector General of Police, and other appointed members of the Police Council at a ceremony held in Accra.

The President, in a statement shared on his official Facebook page, emphasized the critical role the Police Council plays in upholding law and order and ensuring the safety and security of all citizens. He highlighted the importance of commitment, integrity, and a deep understanding of the policing challenges confronting the nation.

“The work of the Police Council is fundamental to upholding law and order and ensuring the safety and security of our citizens,” President Mahama said. “It requires commitment, integrity, and a deep understanding of the challenges facing our police service and the communities they serve.”

The Police Council is tasked with advising the President on matters of police policy, administration, and discipline, and plays a crucial role in shaping the strategic direction of the Ghana Police Service.

President Mahama expressed confidence in the newly sworn-in members, stating his hope that their collective efforts would foster a more professional, efficient, and responsive police service that protects the rights and meets the needs of all Ghanaians.

The swearing-in ceremony is seen as a renewed commitment by the government to enhance public trust in the police service and improve law enforcement across the country.
