Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to arrive in Ghana on July 2, 2025, for a two-day official visit aimed at strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries.
According to a statement signed by Presidential Spokesperson Felix Kwakye Ofosu, the visit underscores the warm and long-standing ties between Ghana and India, and both leaders are expected to use the opportunity to enhance cooperation across a range of sectors.
This historic visit will mark the first trip by an Indian Prime Minister to Ghana in nearly three decades, the last being by P.V. Narasimha Rao in 1995.
During his stay, Prime Minister Modi will hold high-level talks with President John Dramani Mahama at the Jubilee House in Accra. The two leaders are expected to discuss deepening cooperation in a range of sectors including trade, investment, energy, education, health, defence, and agriculture.
A number of bilateral agreements and Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) are expected to be signed to enhance development cooperation and technology exchange. Officials say the visit will also prioritize India's support for Ghana’s industrialization drive and its 24-Hour Economy Policy.
Prime Minister Modi will also attend a state banquet hosted in his honor and participate in a joint press conference with President Mahama. In addition, he is expected to meet with members of Ghana’s Indian business community and key stakeholders in regional diplomacy.
The visit forms part of Modi’s five-nation tour of Ghana, Trinidad and Tobago, Argentina, Brazil, and Namibia, a strategic initiative to deepen India’s engagement with the Global South and promote multilateral collaboration on issues such as climate change, counterterrorism, digital economy, and South-South cooperation.
Ghana and India have maintained strong diplomatic ties since independence, with India playing a key role in capacity building, infrastructure development, and educational exchange in Ghana over the years.
The visit is widely seen as a move to reaffirm India’s leadership role in Africa and to explore new opportunities for collaboration in a rapidly changing global economy.
