The first day of the 3-Day National Mourning, declared by President H.E. John Dramani Mahama in honour of the victims of the tragic Ghana Armed Forces Z-9 military helicopter crash, was marked yesterday with a solemn wreath-laying ceremony at the forecourt of the Jubilee House.
Hon. Gizella Tetteh-Agbotui, Member of Parliament for Awutu Senya West Constituency and Deputy Minister for Works, Housing and Water Resources, joined the President, Vice President H.E. Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyeman, senior government officials, ministers and deputy ministers of state, senior party executives, and other distinguished personalities in paying tribute to the fallen heroes.
The helicopter crash, which claimed the lives of gallant military personnel and comrades, has plunged the nation into grief. The ceremony, attended by both majority and minority Members of Parliament, reflected a rare moment of national unity in the face of tragedy.
In a statement, Hon. Gizella Tetteh-Agbotui expressed deep sorrow over the loss and solidarity with the bereaved families. “May the souls of our gallant compatriots find peaceful rest with their maker,” she said.
The mourning period will continue over the next two days, with flags flying at half-mast and public events scaled down in remembrance of the victims
