As part of his official working visit to China, Member of Parliament for North Tongu and Ranking Member on Ghana’s Foreign Affairs Committee, Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, held a frank and constructive meeting with city authorities in Nanning, led by Vice Mayor Mr. Guo Wei.

The discussions centered on illegal mining in Ghana, where data indicates that the majority of Chinese nationals involved in the sector hail from Nanning. Hon. Ablakwa emphasized the Mahama administration’s unwavering resolve to combat illegal mining, or galamsey, and reiterated that both local and foreign perpetrators will face severe consequences.

The two sides explored proactive measures to raise awareness in Nanning about the harsh penalties associated with illegal mining in Ghana, with the aim of curbing the outflow of individuals seeking to exploit Ghana’s resources unlawfully.

Hon. Ablakwa further highlighted Ghana's introduction of stricter visa protocols intended to prevent potential offenders from gaining entry, thereby safeguarding the nation’s river bodies and ecological balance.

Both parties expressed a strong commitment to turning a new page through responsible and lawful business engagement, marking a step forward in Ghana’s strategy of economic diplomacy.

“For God and Country,” the MP concluded in his social media post, signaling a renewed era of collaboration and enforcement
