In a landmark achievement for Ghanaian journalism, TV3’s Godwin Asediba has been named the winner of the 2025 BBC News Komla Dumor Award, making him only the second Ghanaian to receive the coveted recognition since its inception in 2015.

The award, announced on Thursday, August 21, celebrates outstanding African journalists who demonstrate exceptional storytelling, integrity, and a commitment to amplifying authentic African voices.
Asediba, a news anchor, investigative reporter, and documentary filmmaker with TV3 and 3FM, was commended by the judging panel for his fearless reporting and dedication to stories that impact lives.

His groundbreaking investigation into a neglected mortuary facility, which exposed serious public health risks, stood out as a testament to his journalistic courage and commitment to accountability.

As part of the award package, Asediba will spend three months with the BBC in London, working across television, radio, and digital platforms. He will also travel to an African country of his choice to produce a special report that will be broadcast to a global audience.
The recognition further cements Ghana’s growing influence in African media.

In 2023, Paa Kwesi Asare, also of TV3, became the first Ghanaian to win the award. With Asediba’s victory just two years later, Ghana becomes the only country with two recipients of the prestigious honour.

The BBC News Komla Dumor Award was created in memory of the late Ghanaian broadcaster Komla Dumor, who worked for BBC World News and was widely respected for his passion for telling compelling African stories. Dumor passed away suddenly in 2014 at the age of 41, but his legacy continues through the award named in his honour.

Asediba’s win has been hailed across Ghana and Africa as a monumental moment for journalism, symbolising not only personal excellence but also the rising global footprint of African storytelling.
