The family of the late Major Maxwell Adam Mahama has held a solemn wreath-laying ceremony at the Osu Cemetery in Accra to commemorate the 8th anniversary of his tragic death.
The event, attended by relatives, friends, and members of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF), was marked with reflection, prayers, and tributes to honour the fallen soldier who was brutally lynched in 2017 while on official duty at Denkyira-Obuasi in the Central Region.
Officiating minister, Rev. Kwame Felix Forfoe, described the occasion as not just a moment of remembrance, but also one of celebration of Major Mahama’s bravery, patriotism, and service to Ghana. “We are here not only to mourn a beloved son but to celebrate his selfless service to the Ghana Armed Forces and the nation. His legacy remains deeply cherished and he will never be forgotten,” Rev. Forfoe stated.
Captain Denis Mahama Adams (Rtd), father of the late Major Mahama, expressed profound gratitude to the GAF and the people of Ghana for their continuous support over the years. He reiterated the family's unwavering commitment to keeping Major Mahama’s legacy alive and ensuring it continues to inspire generations.
He also used the occasion to speak out against mob justice, the very act that led to his son’s untimely death. “Mob justice is unacceptable and must be condemned in all forms. Let us uphold the rule of law and ensure that justice prevails in our society,” he urged.
Major Mahama’s death sparked national outrage and led to renewed calls for justice and reforms to combat mob violence in Ghana. His story continues to serve as a painful reminder of the consequences of lawlessness and the need for civic education.
