Rescue operations have led to the retrieval of the remains of all eight victims of Wednesday’s tragic military helicopter crash on Mountain Dampayaw in the Ashanti Region.
Confirming the development, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, who led part of the rescue mission, disclosed that the bodies were found at a difficult-to-reach spot on the mountain.
“About 1,000 feet up Mountain Dampayaw, two hours’ drive from Obuasi and an additional one hour and thirty minutes trek on foot from Sikaman Bofodu, we retrieved the eight lifeless compatriots,” he narrated.
The victims, including two government ministers and senior public officers, perished when a Ghana Air Force Z-9 helicopter crashed while on official duty. The recovery mission, which involved the military, emergency services, and local volunteers, lasted several hours due to the challenging terrain.
The bodies have since been conveyed to a medical facility for identification and further procedures, as the nation mourns the devastating loss.
