Ashaiman Scrap Dealers Appeal to President Mahama Over Alleged Harassment by National Security

A group of scrap dealers in Ashaiman have made a passionate appeal to President John Dramani Mahama, seeking urgent intervention over what they describe as persistent harassment and intimidation by National Security operatives.

The appeal follows recent clashes between the dealers and the security personnel, sparked by alleged efforts to forcefully evict them from the land they currently occupy. According to the scrap dealers, the attempted eviction is being orchestrated by a Chinese national claiming ownership of the land.

The group claims the security operatives have repeatedly stormed their worksite, causing fear and tension among workers, and in some cases, assaulting individuals and destroying property.

"We are hardworking Ghanaians trying to earn an honest living, yet we are being treated like criminals," a spokesperson for the scrap dealers lamented. "We are appealing to President Mahama to come to our aid and stop this unfair treatment."

The dealers are urging the government to investigate the matter thoroughly and ensure that their rights are protected as citizens. They have also called on the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources and the Ashaiman Municipal Assembly to intervene.

This development raises broader concerns about land ownership disputes, foreign influence, and the conduct of state security personnel in local communities.
