The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has formally announced the passing of the Asantehemaa, Nana Konadu Yiadom III, bringing deep sorrow to the Asante Kingdom. The announcement was made during a mandatory Asanteman Council meeting at the Manhyia Palace, attended by paramount chiefs, clan representatives, and dignitaries from across Asanteman.
According to the Asantehene, the one-week observance for the late Queen Mother will take place on Thursday, August 21, 2025, at the Manhyia Palace. Nana Konadu Yiadom III passed away on Thursday, August 7, 2025, at the age of 98.
Nana Konadu Yiadom III was installed as Asantehemaa in 2017, succeeding Nana Afia Kobi Serwaa Ampem II, who passed away in 2016. Her public outdooring coincided with the 67th birthday celebration of her brother, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, an event that also saw the commissioning of the Nana Afia Kobi Serwaa Ampem II Park a ceremonial space opposite the Manhyia Museum, which has since hosted numerous royal and traditional events.
Throughout her reign, Nana Konadu Yiadom III was deeply respected for her wisdom, influence, and unwavering dedication to safeguarding the rich cultural heritage of the Asante Kingdom. She remained a steadfast pillar of support to the Asantehene and the traditional authority, playing a vital role in the governance and preservation of Asante customs.
Her passing marks the end of a remarkable chapter in Asanteman’s history, leaving behind a legacy of dignity, unity, and cultural pride. Preparations for the funeral rites are expected to draw mourners from across Ghana and beyond, as the kingdom bids farewell to one of its most cherished leaders.
