The Women’s Caucus of Parliament, made up of female Members of Parliament from both the Majority and Minority sides, has visited the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) and Makola Market to express solidarity and support for market women in the capital.
Led by the MP for Ada, Comfort Doyoe Ghansah, the caucus interacted with traders to listen to their concerns and reaffirm Parliament’s commitment to addressing their challenges. Madam Doyoe emphasized the importance of bridging the gap between lawmakers and market women, noting that their voices would be carried to Parliament to influence policy discussions.
“We are here to identify with you, listen to you, and take your concerns to Parliament. Your voices matter in the decisions we make,” she assured.
The MPs also encouraged the women to prioritize safety and health in their daily trading activities. The visit, according to the caucus, is part of a broader initiative to build stronger ties with women in the informal sector and advocate for better conditions for their businesses.
Welcoming the delegation, the Mayor of Accra, Michael Kpakpo Allotey, lauded the initiative and pledged the city’s continued efforts to address the traders’ concerns. However, he cautioned against trading on roads, urging compliance with city regulations to ensure safety and order.
