Ghana has been plunged into deep mourning following the devastating helicopter crash that claimed the lives of eight prominent individuals near Sikaman in the Adansi Akrofuom District of the Ashanti Region.
In a solemn statement on behalf of the government and people of Ghana, Vice President Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang expressed profound sorrow over the loss, describing the victims as “dedicated sons of our land who served Ghana with honour and commitment.”
The nation is grieving the tragic deaths of:
Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, Minister for Defence
Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed, Minister for Environment, Science and Technology
Dr. Samuel Sarpong, National Vice Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC)
Flying Officer Twum Ampadu
Mr. Samuel Aboagye, Former Parliamentary Candidate
Alhaji Muniru Mohammed, Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator
Squadron Leader Peter Anala, Pilot
Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah
“These were individuals who dedicated their lives to the service of Ghana,” the Vice President noted. “On behalf of the government and people of Ghana, we extend our heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families. We share in your grief and pray that the Almighty grants you comfort and strength during this unimaginably difficult time.”
In honour of the fallen statesmen and service members, President John Dramani Mahama has declared three days of national mourning, beginning Thursday, August 7. All flags are to fly at half-mast during this period.
The Vice President also called on the public and media to respect the privacy of the bereaved families, urging Ghanaians to “join in this period of reflection and remembrance.”
As investigations continue into the cause of the crash, the nation remains united in grief and gratitude for the service and sacrifice of the departed.
