Minister for Sports and Recreation, Hon. Kofi Adams, has thrown his weight behind the integration of golf into Ghana’s national development strategy, citing the sport’s potential to instill discipline, promote youth development, and advance environmental sustainability.
He made the remarks on Wednesday, June 18, 2025, during a meeting with the leadership of the Professional Golfers' Association (PGA) of Ghana.
According to Minister Adams, golf should be introduced in schools not merely as a sport, but also as a means of nurturing in young people a deeper appreciation for green spaces and healthy living.
“It’s time we introduce golf in schools, not just as a sport, but as a tool for teaching young minds to value green spaces and healthy lifestyles,” he said.
The Minister emphasized the government’s readiness to leverage golf as a driver for grassroots development and eco-friendly initiatives.
“This marks the beginning of a long-term partnership to strengthen the presence of golf in Ghana and build a legacy that connects sport with sustainability,” he stated.
The PGA team, led by its President Hans De Beer, commended the government’s commitment to using sports as a platform for broader environmental and social transformation. They also expressed appreciation for the Ministry’s consistent support for both amateur and professional golf in the country.
The meeting served as a platform to explore collaborative opportunities aimed at elevating golf not only as a competitive sport but also as an educational and developmental tool.
