SLTF Updates Loan Application Portal to Include Under-18 Students
Students Loan Trust Fund removes bank account barrier for young tertiary applicants through No-Fees-Stress portal enhancement

The Students Loan Trust Fund (SLTF) has announced a significant update to its No-Fees-Stress application portal, allowing students under the age of 18 to now successfully complete their loan applications.
In a press release issued on Tuesday, June 17, 2025, the Fund explained that this development was made to eliminate a long-standing barrier faced by young tertiary students who were previously unable to apply due to the legal age requirement for opening bank accounts in Ghana.
The updated portal now offers an option for applicants under 18 to proceed without entering bank account details. Instead, they are to select โNoโ when asked about bank account ownership and provide the names of their guardians or parents to continue the process.
Dr. Saajida Shiraz, Chief Executive Officer of the SLTF, emphasized the Fund's commitment to inclusivity in tertiary education financing. โWe are working to facilitate greater access to financial support for all tertiary students to ensure they can pursue their academic dreams without the burden of fees,โ she said.
The SLTF has encouraged all eligible students to take advantage of the revised portal and reminded them that more information can be obtained by contacting the SLTF Call Centre at 0302 751 020 or via email at info@sltf.gov.gh.
This move is seen as a progressive step towards ensuring equitable access to tertiary education funding, especially for brilliant but young students who are often left behind due to bureaucratic technicalities.
