President John Dramani Mahama has reiterated his government's unwavering commitment to enhancing the welfare and professional development of teachers across the country. This assurance came during a courtesy call by the leadership of the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) at the Jubilee House on Wednesday.

During the engagement, President Mahama commended GNAT for its steadfast dedication to the teaching profession and its pivotal role in shaping the future of the nation. He described teachers as the bedrock of Ghana’s education system and crucial partners in the nation-building process.

“We had fruitful discussions on matters of critical importance to the welfare and growth of our teachers. Their insights were invaluable, and I took the opportunity to thank them for their relentless efforts and the impactful investments GNAT continues to make in the education sector,” the President said.

He emphasized that improving the working and living conditions of teachers is a top priority for his administration, describing it as not just a promise but a fundamental requirement for national development.

As a government, we are committed to ensuring our teachers are well-compensated, work in conducive environments, and have access to continuous professional growth. This is essential if we are to make real progress as a nation,” he added.

GNAT leaders also expressed appreciation for the President’s continued support and advocacy for the teaching fraternity and pledged to work collaboratively with the government to further advance the cause of education in Ghana.

The meeting underscored the importance of teacher empowerment in achieving quality education and national development goals.
