President John Dramani Mahama has announced plans to revive Ghana’s national airline, expressing the government's intent to attract strategic investors and partners to bring the vision to life.
He made the appeal during a courtesy call at the Jubilee House by the newly appointed Ambassador of Portugal to Ghana, Maria Da Conceicao de Sousa Pilar. President Mahama encouraged the Portuguese diplomat to explore the possibility of collaboration between Ghana and Portugal’s national carrier.
The President emphasized his administration’s renewed commitment to strengthening bilateral relations with Portugal, particularly in trade, tourism, and aviation. He noted that the establishment of a Ghanaian national airline would significantly boost the country's connectivity, promote tourism, and foster economic growth.
“We believe this is the right time to reintroduce our own national airline, and we are open to forming mutually beneficial partnerships. Portugal, with its experience in aviation and business, is a key nation we’re looking to,” President Mahama stated.
Ambassador Pilar, while expressing gratitude for the warm welcome, reaffirmed her country’s willingness to enhance cooperation with Ghana in various sectors, pledging to facilitate discussions on possible aviation partnerships.
Ghana has been without a national airline since the collapse of Ghana Airways and its successor Ghana International Airlines. The new initiative signals the Mahama administration’s focus on reclaiming Ghana’s presence in the aviation space with international support.
