President John Dramani Mahama has urged world leaders to prioritize saving lives over funding warfare, as he addressed the Gavi Vaccine Alliance conference. Speaking at the event, President Mahama commended Gavi’s ambitious plan to invest $9 billion over the next five years to immunize 500 million children across the globe.
Highlighting the significance of this investment, he drew a stark comparison to military spending, revealing that his research showed a single B-2 Spirit bomber, reportedly used for bombing missions in Iran, costs around $2.13 billion. He noted that the cost of just four such bombers would match Gavi’s entire budget for the global immunization drive.
President Mahama concluded by challenging the global community to reflect on this reality and make a moral choice: to allocate resources toward saving lives through immunization or toward destructive military pursuits. His remarks were met with applause as they resonated with the conference’s theme of protecting future generations through vaccines.
