In a swift response to the ongoing industrial action by the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA), the Parliamentary Select Committee on Health has successfully engaged the leadership of the association in an emergency meeting aimed at resolving their grievances.
The crucial meeting, held in Accra, ended on a positive note, with both parties agreeing to act in the best interest of patients and the nation. The Committee, led by its Chairman Hon. Mark Kurt Nawaane and Ranking Member Hon. Nana Ayew Afriyie, negotiated with the GRNMA leadership and appealed to them to call off the strike.
Hon. Nawaane further urged the Association and other discontented groups to make use of parliamentary channels by submitting petitions to the Speaker for intervention, rather than resorting to industrial actions that disrupt essential services.
The GRNMA delegation, headed by First Vice President Mr. Samuel Alagkora Akolgo, expressed gratitude to the Committee for granting them a listening ear and pledged their cooperation in ongoing negotiations with the Executive to meet their demands.
Also present at the meeting were the Minister of Health Hon. Kwabena Minta Akandoh, Deputy Minister of Finance Hon. Thomas Nyarko Ampem, Majority Leader Hon. Mahama Ayariga, and the CEO of the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission, Dr. George Smith-Graham.
Following the fruitful engagement, the GRNMA has officially called off its strike action and commended the Committee for its timely and effective intervention.
