The National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) has taken a significant step toward enhancing staff welfare with a successful stakeholder engagement forum focused on the proposed establishment of a Cooperative Credit Union and Welfare Scheme.
Held at the NHIA Head Office in Accra, the sensitization forum brought together directors and deputy directors from various departments. The session, chaired by Mr. Oti Frempong, was also accessible virtually to senior staff located outside the capital.
The meeting featured insightful presentations from external consultants who outlined the structure, benefits, and operational models of cooperative credit unions. Emphasis was placed on how such initiatives can foster financial independence, promote a culture of savings, and boost the overall wellbeing of employees.
The response from NHIA’s senior management was overwhelmingly positive, with strong expressions of support for the initiative. Participants praised the scheme’s potential to significantly improve staff financial stability and morale.
A steering committee, appointed by Executive Management to oversee the process, emphasized that this forum marks the beginning of broader stakeholder consultations within the Authority. The committee plans to engage various staff groups to gather input and foster consensus as the proposal develops.
The NHIA Cooperative Credit Union and Welfare Scheme is a key component of the Authority’s commitment to staff empowerment and the creation of sustainable support systems for employees.
