The Greater Accra Regional Office of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) has conducted its 2025 First Quarter Performance Review Meeting, reaffirming its commitment to achieving Universal Health Coverage (UHC) by 2030.

Held at the Regional Office Conference Room in Accra, the meeting brought together district managers, technical officers, and regional staff to assess progress against set targets and strategize for the quarters ahead.

Acting Regional Director, Mr. Samuel Sowah Oblejumah, commended staff for their dedication, noting that the region had attained an active membership of 2,284,033 representing 66.2% of the 2025 target of 3,448,870. He urged districts to intensify efforts in the remaining quarters, aligning with President John Dramani Mahama’s vision under the Ghana Medical Trust Fund and the new Free Primary Healthcare policy.

Mr. Oblejumah also highlighted key national reforms led by Acting NHIA CEO, Dr. Victor Asare Bampoe, including steps to eliminate illegal charges, streamline co-payments, and improve claims settlement.

A data presentation by Mr. Daniel Duedu, Regional Data Analytics Lead, emphasized the region’s 6.1 million population and stressed the need for a 12% annual growth in active NHIS membership. He noted that over 580,000 residents failed to renew their cards in 2024, urging a shift in focus toward renewals.

The Tema District emerged as the Best Performing District, hitting 80.9% of its membership target, with Ga Central following at 70.9%. On the revenue front, Greater Accra mobilized GH₵5.1 million.
