The National Identification Authority (NIA) has issued a stern warning to Ghanaians, advising them not to permit institutions, particularly banks to photocopy their Ghana Cards.
The NIA describes the practice as both unlawful and improper.

Speaking at a press briefing on Wednesday, June 18, the Head of Corporate Affairs at the NIA, Williams Emmanuel Ampomah Dallas, emphasized that institutions requiring identity verification must use the NIA’s official biometric verification platform rather than relying on physical copies of the card.

“We want to use this medium to plead with the public: do not allow any institution to photocopy your Ghana Card.
They are supposed to approach us directly. We provide them the data to conduct proper biometric verification,” he said.

He, urged institutions to follow due process by engaging the NIA for authorized access and encouraged the public to protect their personal information by refusing to submit their cards for duplication.

He stressed that the authenticity of the Ghana Card can only be verified securely through the NIA’s biometric verification system.
