NDC’s Emelia Ankomah Mourns Fallen National Leaders, Calls for Unity in Grief

A wave of grief has swept across Ghana following the tragic loss of several high-profile national leaders in recent days, with National Democratic Congress (NDC) member Emelia Ankomah expressing her deepest condolences to the bereaved families and the nation at large.

In a heartfelt tribute, Ms. Ankomah described the late Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, Minister for Defence; Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, Minister for Environment; Alhaji Muniru Mohammed, Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator; Dr. Samuel Sarpong, NDC National Vice Chairman; Mr. Samuel Aboagye, a former parliamentary candidate; Squadron Leader Flying Officer Twum Ampadu; and Sergeant Ernest Addo as “exemplary leaders and true patriots” whose service to Ghana was marked by unwavering dedication.

“Their untimely passing has cast a shadow of grief over Ghana, leaving a void in our hearts and within our political landscape,” she said, adding that each played a pivotal role in shaping policies and guiding initiatives to uplift society and safeguard citizens.

Ms. Ankomah emphasised that beyond their political and professional achievements, the men’s commitment to the advancement of the country stood as an enduring inspiration. She noted that the NDC, in particular, had lost key pillars whose absence would be deeply felt within the party.

“As we reflect on their invaluable contributions, it is essential to remember their courage and relentless spirit. May their legacies live on, inspiring future generations to uphold the values of service they embodied,” she stated, urging Ghanaians to unite in mourning and in celebrating the lives of the departed.

The fallen leaders were among eight individuals who lost their lives in a recent military helicopter crash, a tragedy that has prompted nationwide sorrow and tributes from across the political spectrum.
