The Minister for the Interior, Hon. Muntaka Mubarak Mohammed, has officially inaugurated a 15-member Governing Board for the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC), tasking them with the urgent responsibility of combating illicit drug trafficking in Ghana.
At a brief but significant ceremony in Accra, Hon. Muntaka emphasized the growing threat of transnational organized drug crimes, describing them as borderless and highly destructive, particularly to the youth. He stressed that the menace of illicit narcotics undermines national security, public health, and societal stability.
“The Government remains committed to strengthening the fight against drug trafficking with transparency, competence, and professionalism,” the Minister stated. “This Board must lead the charge with bold, innovative strategies to protect our communities.”
The new NACOC Board is expected to provide strategic guidance to the Commission in its mandate to enforce Ghana’s narcotics laws, collaborate with international partners, and promote public education on the dangers of drug abuse.
The inauguration marks a renewed national effort to intensify the crackdown on narcotics trafficking and related crimes.
