Free Zones CEO Dr. Mary Awusi Mourns Victims of Military Plane Crash
The Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Free Zones Authority, Dr. Mary Awusi, has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic military plane crash that claimed the lives of eight prominent Ghanaians, including five senior government officials and three public servants.

The Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Free Zones Authority, Dr. Mary Awusi, has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic military plane crash that claimed the lives of eight prominent Ghanaians, including five senior government officials and three public servants.
In a condolence statement released on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, Dr. Awusi extended her sympathies to the bereaved families, President John Dramani Mahama, Vice President, and the leadership and members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
“This heartbreaking incident has plunged the nation into deep mourning,” Dr. Awusi said, describing the deceased as individuals who “dedicated their lives to the service of our country and the NDC party, working tirelessly with integrity, commitment, and an unwavering sense of duty.”
She noted that the loss is not only devastating to the families and colleagues of the victims but also “a great blow to the entire nation and especially the NDC party.”
Dr. Awusi called on Ghanaians to honor the legacy of the departed by upholding the values they embodied service, patriotism, and excellence as the nation grieves this irreparable loss.
“May their souls rest in perfect peace and may the Almighty grant strength and consolation to all who are grieving,” she concluded.
The military plane crash, which occurred earlier today, resulted in the deaths of Defence Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, Environment Minister Dr. Alhaji Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, and other high-ranking officials and military personnel. The cause of the crash is currently under investigation.
