Electoral Commission Mourns Defence Minister Dr. Omane Boamah and Seven Others
The Electoral Commission of Ghana (EC) has expressed profound shock and sadness over the sudden passing of Dr. Edward Kofi Omane Boamah, Minister for Defence and a prominent member of the Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC), who died in a helicopter crash alongside seven other citizens on August 6, 2025.

The Electoral Commission of Ghana (EC) has expressed profound shock and sadness over the sudden passing of Dr. Edward Kofi Omane Boamah, Minister for Defence and a prominent member of the Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC), who died in a helicopter crash alongside seven other citizens on August 6, 2025.
In a statement signed by Chairperson Mrs. Jean Mensa, the EC described Dr. Omane Boamah as an “active and dedicated member” of IPAC, widely respected for his vocal contributions and unwavering commitment to strengthening Ghana’s democratic and electoral processes.
“His absence at our meetings will be felt,” the statement noted, adding that the tragedy represents a great loss to the nation.
The Commission extended its condolences to President John Dramani Mahama, the Government of Ghana, the bereaved families, and the entire nation, assuring them of its thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
The EC concluded with a solemn prayer: “May the souls of the departed rest in peace.”
