The Ghana National Tailors and Dressmakers Association (GNTDA) has marked it maiden World Tailors and Dressmakers Day Celebration at the Islamic school park in Gomoa Ankamu, central region on 1st August 2025.

Speaking at the colourful ceremony, Dr. Emmanuel Appoh Mensah, former parliamentary aspirant for Gomoa East Constituency, encouraged both masters and apprentices to regard tailoring not just as a trade but as a vital pillar of national development

"Tailoring and dressmaking are more than sewing clothes. They are industries that can create jobs, preserve our culture and put Ghana on the global fashion map," Dr. Emmanuel Appoh Mensah said. I urge every apprentice here to take your training seriously and every master to mentor the next generation with deligence.Together we can transform this craft into a driving force  for our local economy."

He further stressed the need for unity among artisans, innovation in designs, and the promotion of "Made in Ghana" clothing to reduce dependency on imported apparel.

The event drew notable personalities,including Hon. Mohammed Kassim, Municipal Cheoc Executive for Gomoa West, Nana Adontenhene of Gomoa Ankamu, Queen mothers and other key stakeholders in the fashion and craft industry.

Program Highlight:

Outdoor and indoor games celebration featuring trainers and apprebribes.A vibrant celebration of the tailoring and dress making profession, showcasing it importance in nation-building.

Various fun packed activities including; womens soccer, athletics,spoon and lime races and sack races were organised to foster camaraderie among participants.The winning zone of the game earned recognition and was awarded. 

The celebration is expected to become an annual event to honour the contributions of tailors and dressmakers to GHANA's so ion economic development and inspire more youth to venture into the profession.
