Over 60 NPP MPs Rally Behind Bawumia Ahead of 2026 Flagbearer Race

In a bold display of unity and endorsement, over 60 out of 88 New Patriotic Party (NPP) Members of Parliament have declared their support for Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia's 2026 presidential bid. The show of force came during a high-profile visit by the MPs to Dr. Bawumia, signaling a strong front ahead of the party’s upcoming primaries.

Led by prominent figures including fprmer Finance Minister Mohammed Amin Adam, former Information Minister Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, and former Director-General of the National Lottery Authority, Sammi Awuku, the MPs pledged their unwavering backing for the former Vice President, describing him as the party’s best bet to retain power in the 2026 general elections.

The endorsement comes as the race for the NPP flagbearership intensifies, with notable contenders such as Assin Central MP Kennedy Agyapong, former Agriculture Minister Bryan Acheampong, and former Education Minister Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum all eyeing the coveted slot.

Political observers say Bawumia’s early momentum could shape the dynamics of the primaries, as party faithful begin to weigh competence, popularity, and electability ahead of the vote.
