NDC’s Abanga Yakubu Denies Galamsey Allegations, Dares Accusers to Provide Evidence

The 3rd National Vice Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Hon. Abanga Yakubu Alhassan, has strongly refuted allegations linking him to illegal mining (galamsey) activities and a purported unauthorized taskforce operating within mining communities.

Addressing the media in response to claims made by the self-styled Concerned Small-Scale Miners Association of Ghana (CSSMAG), Mr. Abanga described the accusations as “baseless, malicious, and entirely without merit.”

“Let me place it on record, without ambiguity: I have absolutely no hand in, and I know nothing about these allegations. I challenge anyone who claims otherwise to be bold and point to me directly. If I have ever extorted money from any miner or seized any equipment, let them mention my name publicly,” he declared.

Mr. Abanga went a step further, stating that he would resign as a National Officer of the NDC if anyone could prove his involvement in galamsey. “This is not just about politics, it is about protecting reputations built over years of service and sacrifice. I will not sit back and allow anyone to jeopardize my name with falsehoods,” he added.

As a licensed small-scale miner himself, Mr. Abanga reaffirmed his commitment to promoting legal and responsible mining that supports Ghana’s economic growth. He clarified that neither he nor NDC National Organizer Joseph Yamin has ever authorized any group to conduct enforcement operations in mining areas.

“Any individual or group claiming such authority is impersonating and must be investigated,” he insisted.

To further discredit the claims, Mr. Abanga revealed that the Mobile Money number cited in CSSMAG’s statement—0244254231—allegedly linked to a man named Andrew Abban, is actually registered to someone named Roland Agudogo. He presented this as evidence of intentional impersonation aimed at misleading the public and tarnishing his reputation.

“Their intent is to tarnish my hard-earned reputation, and we condemn it outright,” he said.

Mr. Abanga ended his remarks by reaffirming his dedication to the NDC’s “Resetting the Nation Agenda,” which prioritizes restoring national hope, creating sustainable jobs for the youth, and building a more accountable governance system.

“These fake, sponsored articles and propaganda should be disregarded by the good people of Ghana. No amount of disinformation will derail the NDC’s vision for a better Ghana,” he concluded.
