A Nigerian national residing in Ghana, Hon. Prince Ugo, has strongly dismissed circulating claims alleging that members of the Igbo tribe are plotting to establish a kingdom in Ghana as part of a strategy to take over indigenous lands.
Addressing the controversy in a public statement, Hon. Ugo described the allegations as baseless and misleading, stressing that the Nigerian community, particularly the Igbo people, have no such intentions.
“If we wanted to grab Ghana’s land, we wouldn’t be teaching our children Igbo culture in Ghana. What we would’ve done is to allow them learn Ghanaian culture to fit in,” he stated.
He emphasized that the Igbo community remains respectful of Ghanaian sovereignty and cultural values, adding that their presence in the country is strictly for peaceful coexistence, trade, and mutual development.
The remarks come amid growing concerns on social media and in some local circles over alleged land encroachment attempts by foreigners. However, Hon. Ugo called for calm, urging Ghanaians and Nigerians alike to focus on strengthening the long-standing diplomatic and people-to-people ties between the two countries.
Authorities have not officially commented on the claims, but civil society groups are urging the public to avoid spreading unverified information that could incite ethnic tension.
