Dr. Ekuah Amoakoh, a prominent member of the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) communications team, has revealed that the party has officially distanced itself from the ongoing controversy surrounding the Electoral Commissioner, stating categorically that the NPP will not be defending her.
In a strongly-worded statement, Dr. Amoakoh emphasized that the party has "washed its hands off" the matter, pointing to what she described as the Commissioner's incompetence in handling key electoral issues most notably, the Ablekuma North election case.
"The Electoral Commissioner has demonstrated, time and again, that she is unfit for the role. Her actions, especially in the Ablekuma North matter, have eroded public trust and thrown the Commission’s integrity into question,” Dr. Amoakoh said.
Her comments come amid increasing calls for the removal of the Electoral Commissioner, with critics citing poor judgment, lack of transparency, and procedural irregularities as grounds for her dismissal.
The NPP’s stance is expected to add further momentum to those pushing for accountability and reform at the Electoral Commission. Political observers say this public disavowal by a leading party figure marks a significant shift in the party’s posture toward the Commission's leadership.
The Electoral Commission has yet to officially respond to the latest criticisms.
