The Member of Parliament for Mpraeso, Davis Ansah Opoku, has expressed deep sorrow over the deaths of Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, Alhaji Dr. Murtala Mohammed, and other victims of Wednesday’s military helicopter crash.
In an emotional statement, the legislator described the late Dr. Omane Boamah as not just a national figure but “a brother” from his hometown, Obomeng. He also paid tribute to Alhaji Dr. Murtala Mohammed, whom he referred to as “a dear friend and colleague” with whom he served on Parliament’s Public Accounts Committee.
“I am truly heartbroken. Dr. Edward Omane Boamah was not just a national figure; he was my brother from my hometown, Obomeng. Alhaji Dr. Murtala Mohammed was a dear friend and colleague in Parliament, and we shared many hours on the Public Accounts Committee. Losing them, along with the other distinguished Ghanaians who perished, is a painful blow to their families, to Parliament, and our country. My prayers are with their loved ones in this challenging time,” the statement read.
The crash, which involved a Ghana Air Force Z-9 helicopter, claimed the lives of several high-ranking national figures and military officers. The tragedy has been declared a national disaster, with President John Dramani Mahama directing all flags to be flown at half-mast as investigations into the cause of the incident continue.
The government is expected to announce funeral arrangements in the coming days, while tributes continue to pour in from across the political spectrum and the general public.
