The Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Hon. Samuel Nartey George (MP), has toured Girls-in-ICT training centres in the Volta Region as part of efforts to encourage young girls to embrace digital skills and STEM education.

During the visit, the Minister interacted with trainees at centres including In My Father’s House, RC Basic School in Abor (Keta Municipal), and the Amissah-Arthur Learning Centre in Ohawu (Ketu North District).

Hon. George emphasized the government’s commitment to training 3,000 girls and 300 teachers in digital skills this year under the flagship Girls-in-ICT programme, implemented through the Ghana Investment Fund for Electronic Communications (GIFEC).

“This is more than just an annual programme, it’s about building a future generation of empowered women in technology,” he stated, adding that schools are also being equipped and teachers trained to ensure lasting impact and gender equity in digital education.

The Minister praised local officials and leaders such as Hon. Kwame Garkpey, MP for Keta, for their dedication to ICT advancement in their constituencies. He also encouraged the girls with a personal story, referencing his engineer sister and highlighting global ICT icon Farida Bedwei as a role model.

The Volta Regional Minister, Hon. James Gunu, commended the initiative and urged the girls to take full advantage of the opportunity to shape their futures.

The Girls-in-ICT programme continues to receive strong backing from the Presidency and key state agencies, aiming to ensure every Ghanaian girl has the tools and support to thrive in the digital era.
