Ghanaian musician King Paluta has received national academic recognition after his song “Aseda” was featured in the 2025 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE). Administered by the West African Examinations Council (WAEC), this year’s Creative Arts paper included a question that highlighted the powerful societal messages in the hit track.

The exam question asked students to identify two social issues addressed in “Aseda,” recognizing the song’s lyrical depth and cultural relevance. Specifically, candidates were told:

King Paluta, whose real name is Thomas Adjei Wireko, is a Ghanaian musician celebrated for his ability to merge traditional rhythms, narrative storytelling, and modern hip-hop beats. One of his most impactful songs, 'Aseda,' carries profound messages that address crucial issues within Ghanaian society. Identify two of these societal issues.”

The inclusion of “Aseda” in the BECE marks a significant milestone for King Paluta, who continues to gain acclaim for his socially conscious music. Despite missing out on the Artiste of the Year title at the 2025 Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA), the Kumasi-based artiste remains a powerful force in Ghana’s music scene. His song “Aseda” not only earned him the Best Highlife Song award at this year’s TGMA but has also resonated deeply with audiences across the country.

Many social media users and fans have praised WAEC for incorporating contemporary Ghanaian music into academic evaluation, noting that it bridges the gap between education and popular culture while promoting critical thinking among students.

King Paluta’s recognition in a national exam underscores the growing impact of music as a tool for education and social commentary in Ghana.
