The Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Hon. Samuel Nartey George (MP), has announced a major shift in government policy on rural telephony, directing the National Communications Authority (NCA) and the Ghana Investment Fund for Electronic Communications (GIFEC) to audit all rural telephony sites established in 2016.
Speaking at the 15-year anniversary celebration of Helios Towers, Hon. George stated that the audit aims to assess the viability of existing sites. He explained that sites found to be commercially viable will be decommissioned to allow private operators to take over, reducing government intervention in areas where the private sector can operate efficiently.
“The government is committed to creating a favorable business environment and believes that growth should be driven by businesses and entrepreneurs,” the Minister said, highlighting the importance of private sector participation in national development.
Hon. George declared that “Ghana is open for business again,” underscoring the government's renewed focus on attracting investment and enhancing economic growth through strategic digital infrastructure policies.
